As it is with all things seemingly nerd, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.Jon Favreau, you know, the guy who not only got Iron Man pitch perfect for fans and managed to make the character a household name, will not be directing the cinematic debut of The Avengers. Favreau confirmed as much over at MTV News' site. Still, he'll stay on as a producer for the movie, so not all hope is lost. At least he'll hopefully be able to have some input.
The question now becomes, who can handle a movie about The Avengers? It's a heady task to say the least, and it'll take someone adept at being able to boil down over 40 years of continuity dealing in multiple characters to make it accessible to movie goers and fulfilling to fans.
I wish there was someone who had experience with this sort of thing...

NO NO NO NO NO! Anyone but Bryan Singer! Well, not Joel Schumacher, either, but Singer's movies have gotten progressively worse as his career has grown. He was a wunderkind back in the day, but I have to say ... he's become a hack. Although, I'm not sure who else could take on Earth's Mightiest Heroes...
Dude. Let your hatred of Superman Returns go. X-Men 2 still sands as one of the best super hero movies to date. He's the man for The Avengers. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
First: I will NEVER let my hatred for Superman Returns go. But you're right about X2 ... maybe he could do it. But if he puts Cap in black leather, we're gonna have a problem.
I've got a silenced rifle....if he puts Cap in Black Leather....he won't live long enough to regret it.
